FAQs

Nano FAQs

  • Where can I get help and advice on the Nano and app?
  • You can find tutorials and a Quick Start Guide on the Dog Tracker Nano website, or you can email us at info@retrievatracking.co.uk

  • How long does it take to activate my Nano after I have purchased a subscription?
  • It can take up to 24 hours to complete the activation process (up to 72 hours if purchased after midday on a Friday). If you have purchased a ‘subscription only’ Nano your device will be activated before it is sent to you

  • How do I turn on/off the Dog Tracker Nano?
  • We recommend you do not switch your Nano off. The Nano uses movement sensors to manage power and tracking as required. Being permanently “on” ensures you can always find your dog

  • What does the red flashing LED mean?
  • Your Nano is operating normally and is seeking GPS data and a data connection to send its location to the app

  • The right hand LED does not flash red. What do I do?
  • There can be three reasons for this:
    1. Your Nano’s battery is flat and needs charging – put the Nano on charge until the light turns green
    2. Your Nano has been switched off – press the button for 3 seconds
    3. Your Nano may be malfunctioning – if there is no light when your Nano is attached to the charger, please contact us

  • How do I test that my Nano is working properly?
  • When the right hand LED is flashing red, press the test button. For correct operation you will see three green lights:
    – If the left hand LED is amber, you will need to charge your Nano
    – If the middle LED is amber, there is a weak GPS signal
    – If the right hand LED is amber, you are in an area where there is limited telecom connection / the signal is weak

  • What do each of the three LEDs mean?
  • From left to right – battery strength, GPS signal, telecom signal

  • I have three green LEDs, what does that mean?
  • The Nano is operating correctly

  • My Nano is not showing a location even though I have three green LEDs
  • This may be because your phone does not have a data connection. The systems to make voice calls and receive data are not the same, such that you can have a strong mobile signal but a poor Nano signal at the same time

  • Why do the LEDs flash green after I remove my Nano from charge?
  • Your Nano is re-booting

  • How does the movement sensor work?
  • The sensor is designed to start sending data once it is moving. If it does not after a few minutes of movement, the sensor settings may need to be adjusted. This can happen if your dog is old or a large breed that tends to move slowly. Contact us to have the settings changed

  • Why does my Nano turn off / go into sleep mode?
  • The movement sensors activate and de-activate the Nano to help manage power consumption and extend battery life between charges

  • How long does it take for my Nano to turn on / come out of sleep mode?
  • This will depend on GPS, GSM and mobile signals available and can take from one to five minutes depending on your local conditions

  • My dog is slow moving. Can you adjust the Nano’s sensitivity to turn on more quickly and remain on during walks?
  • Contact us to adjust the movement settings

  • Will the Nano track my dog when they are in a car?
  • At low to medium speed yes, but the data may be erratic if the car is travelling quickly or your dog is stationery in the car for a long time

  • Is the Nano waterproof?
  • Yes in fresh water. Do not use in the sea

  • How do I charge the Nano?
  • Lift the rubber cover on the charger port and clip the charger to the side of the Nano and fitting tray. You do not need to remove your Nano from its collar to do this. Please see the tutorial on our website for more instructions

  • How long does it take to charge the Nano?
  • From fully discharged – up to three hours

  • How often should I charge the Nano?
  • This will depend on how active your dog is, but typically it will be between 3-6 days. For an active dog it could be 2-5 days. We recommend you charge your Nano daily if you are using it frequently

  • How do I attach the Nano to my collar / matching collar?
  • Please download the Quick Start Guide from the Nano website for a step-by-step guide

  • How do I fit the Nano to a harness?
  • If possible, find an open strap to thread through the tongue and fit the tray in the same way as a standard or security collar. If there is no open-ended strap, clip the Nano to another strap and make sure you tape the tongue to the strap to stop it moving around

  • Do you make tracking devices for cats?
  • Not at this time

  • Can I use the Nano abroad?
  • Yes, the Nano will work wherever you have a GPS satellite, GSM signal and data connectivity

  • Will the Nano be harmful to my dog?
  • No, the unit is sealed and uses standard telecom technology compliant with international emission standards

  • What is a Roaming SIM and when would I need one?
  • A roaming SIM will give you the best possible signal strength by searching the mobile networks. It can be especially helpful when you are in remote areas or travelling abroad

  • What is a Speed Track?
  • Speed Track will ensure the most detailed tracking of fast running dogs by increasing the data frequency from every 30 seconds to every 10 seconds

  • Why is there a monthly charge?
  • The Nano is a telecom device that uses the data network to communicate with your Nano app. There is an ongoing cost for providing the data connection and live-tracking data

  • How does the security collar protect against the risk of theft?
  • Once fitted it cannot easily be removed and acts as a deterrent against opportunistic theft. Having the Dog Tracker Nano name embossed on the cover ensures a thief clearly knows the risk they are taking of being caught red-handed

  • How does the security collar protect my dog?
  • The lockable security collar is made with a combination of anti-cut materials that will prevent a thief easily removing the collar from your dog and will give you much needed time to locate them if they are foolish enough to take a dog wearing a tracker

  • How prevalent is dog theft?
  • It is estimated that almost 30,000 dogs are stolen in the UK every year, with few recovered and returned to their owners. There is an increase in dogs being stolen to order and scams where dogs are stolen for the thief to claim the reward
